3. Stay in Canada as a student
Temporary residents who are in Canada as students may wish to extend their stay, change the conditions of their stay or correct problems with their status.
4. Permanent residence in Canada under Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds
This application is for persons in Canada who would suffer excessive hardship if they had to return to their home country to apply for permanent residence as required by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Cost and inconvenience are not considered excessive hardship. Criteria examined include establishment in Canada and the best interests of a child.
5. Family sponsorship
Citizenship and Immigration Canada knows the importance of providing opportunities for families to reunite in Canada. A Canadian citizen or permanent resident, can sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, dependent child or other eligible relatives (such as parents or grandparents) to immigrate to Canada as permanent residents.
The basic requirements to qualify as a sponsor are that a person must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, be at least 18 years old, reside in Canada, and, in certain instances have a sufficient income to support their relatives once they arrive in Canada.
